Just thought you'd all be relieved to know that the 109 should be out soon, not sure when the street date for it was supposed to be or if it's late, but I've seen a factory assembled pre-pro (in bright orange!) over a month ago and after gently suggesting a few corrections I did here a more final pp had made it's way to Corgi. So it seems on schedule as far as I know.
I don't think the Mossie delays are going to be repeated anytime soon, there we're a few tiny little hiccups with that one as I'm sure you're aware!

I reckon we will see some of next years range before the Wellington and Me-109 appear. It happened this year so no reason for it not to happen again. Corgi seem to have a bit of a production backlog at the moment. If the delay is so that they can produce a better model then I would rather wait. I think the Me-109 is going to be a fantastic addition to the range.

Not too concerened about the figures that come with it, its the drab mottled livery makes it the most appealing to me. May even be inclined to included some subtle exhaust staining around its yellow cowling. Cant wait for it.

I must say I was driving home after picking-up this babe and JUSThad to take a peek..... (Stuck in traffic of course)..... I wish I had not as I have fallen in love again!!!! (apart from Mrs CFBC that is just in case she reads the Forum)....
This is one nice product by Corgi.... I think it's one of the best releases to date this year and thats going some too....... Ive hot-footed it back, wripped off the box lid, :( and have taken some snaps for you guys..... Trust me, you will not be dissapointed.......!!!!
Overall, the BF109 is not a big as the Spitfire or the Mustangs, feels quite light, but not as much as the Mustangs either, but has a nifty under switch/button for the landing gear which is good.... The canopy opens nicely and inside detail is good..... Outside finish and detailing is excellent also.Whats also nice is get th engine cover off, canopy open and it displays well.......Just watch out for the preturding antennas on the wing and underside.... Very flimsey and could, say could be easily broken if not careful..... Apart from that...... Excellent (in a Mr Burns voice).
Personally.... WELL WORTH the wait.... Red 6, excellent..... :)
Problem is now.... I wanna display it!!!! And she don't know about it.....

Too lower I had to press the button whilst holding the model upright, then to retract I had to turn it upside down and press the button again, otherwise it just would not retract.

As regards Pilots, they all look like halfwits so it's not as if you've bought a dodgy 'un is it? :)
Must admit I'd rather have the big 'uns without the crap painted men in them so I've gone for Barkhorn's 109 and 'Grumpy' Unwin's 19 Squadron Spit.

If 32 Spits are going for £30, these the P51's and even the venerable Mossies will be very cheap IF the dealer network supports them which I feel they may not do.. Picked up my '109 yesterday..............
Very pleased with it on the whole, better than anything Corgi have done in this scale, even the pilot looks Germanic.
Not bothered about the undercart workings, once on display it's not moved.
Have peeled off the instruction label (very easily)
Does anyone else think the angle of the u/c legs is a bit "splayed out?"
No matter, will display mine with u/c up.

I have received the two first Corgi Me-109, thay are beautiful.
For me the best is the first (not limited) , red 6 night fighter
It's beautiful with his under parts all blacks. The pilots don't seems

They are indeed nice looking things... 109 pilots didn't have much to smile about in all !!
Its interesting that we haven't seen a 1:72 109 for a little while, i can't recall one from the past few catalogues??????
Any sugestions for a suitable scheme????
davidwford
20th February 2005, 16:49
I would have thought that Corgi would have started turning out some 1/72 G's by now to compliment the 1/32 scale offerings? I've only got 2 1/72 109's, Galland and Marseille, none of the others really appealed. Could really do with some additions as ,my overwhelming Spitfire force is funding it a bit too easy at the moment!
Anyway, can't wait for my 1/32 Barkhorn 109G to touch down. Hopefully not long to wait now...

The only thing thats spoils the 109 is the ugly rubber bungs that are inserted over the fixing screws on the underside of the wings,if they were placed correctly nice and flush it would be a big improvement instead of them being just pushed in at any angle then painted, its only a small fault but little touches like these would enhance the models 100%...

I've just noticed that the 1:32 109 comes with a much cheaper stand than both the Spit and P51! Spit and P51 both came with a cradle metal stand , but the 109 has only a basic stand and the base is plastic instead of the usual metal.Anyone else notice this key difference? I was wondering id the stand was really man enough for the job considering that the others needed cradles?

Right guys, I'm thinking of getting a 1/32 Me109. It will be my first, and due to storage problems, especially for 1/32 gear, it will be my last. :o
I notice the prices are much more affordable (and realistic now) but which one to get?
I'm leaning towards the Hartmann but I note from Triatcus's site that the canopy seems to be different from other examples. Is this correct? It looks to me as though it should come from a later mark (10?) but as I have said in previous posts, I'm not an expert. :o
So two questions - which one would you pick and is this canopy correct?
Thank you for your opinions. :)

Hello 956
I would go for the Hartman or the Barkhorn. Hartman would be my first choise because you can decide to put it on the stand or under cart. Barkhorn aint got a pilot in the cockpit, so it looks daft when you put it on the stand (It does indeed come with a stand).
Hell, buy em both and rotate em between shelf and loft :)
P51D
19th December 2005, 20:20
Well it's got to be between Barkhorn and Hartman as Dave has mentioned (and the best bet would be to have both if you have space :D ).
If you only have room for one and as both are (equally?) well known I would say it's down to which one you like the look of most. For me this is the Barkhorn, in fact this has got to be one of my top purchases of 2005

They're both correct as Hartmann favoured the 'Erla'-type canopy which gave better all-round vision ; Barkhorn's 109 used the 'standard' framed hood which is more typical of the 109.
This is why you 'need' both ! ;)
Seriously, I thought exactly the same as you - ie Hartmann would be my one-and-only  But then the model was so much nicer than I thought that I realised I'd be kicking myself in a year or two for not getting Barkhorn at the current bargain price...... :(

The 1:32 casting of the BF109G is superb. I bought the Hartmann and Barkhorn models at a cracking price off the bay and the "Doring" 109 from MZ at the Metro Centre at a good price.

Because there are more variances with the G.... Airfix did it... and didnt bother with an E for ages.. Revell did that one in 1/72, its two seperate markets.. and with the G.. it doesnt look they are just concentrating on a BoB line.. personally I would have preferred an E to go with the Spits, but thankfully the loft has been spared all those large boxes..
G is also more for the US market..
Think if Corgi want to sell any of their Hurricanes at anywhere near their RRP then it might be an idea to get a few out onto the market, otherwise we will see that there are going to be half a dozen produced before we even get our mitts on one and that will somewhat dilute the impact of a new issue.. The way its going at the moment, this one could go straight to £30-40.. ( which is most probably a fair RRP in the first place..) as there will be so many to choose from ..
.. and if that nose is wrong.. the estimates above.. halve them.

I didnt say that Corgi were capable of selling them over there.. thats a totally
different kettle of the fishes... but when you look through any of the US WW2 'stuff' catalogues, the main emphasis is on a war that started in 1941.. and with a market of that size, it makes sense to go for the stuff that they should buy/want..
Whether with hindsight of course, the pooch will ever admit it was perhaps wrong.... :D

When the kids came along that was my excuse to start going again. An exciting day out organising bus and train transport to Church Fenton. I'll say no more or the Hovis theme will start up again :(

An accident which still causes controversy.

Its hard to believe that its nearly 9 years ago, I was at the show and remember asking Mark Hanna if the pilot was O.K. If I recall, the report on the accident sounded like it was pilot error. We sure lost some rare aircraft back then,Black 6, the Mossie and the P-38 :(
Luckily I saw them all many times at airshows.

The pilot was none other than ACM Sir John Allison, he did very well getting Black 6 on the ground at all, a lesser pilot may have died trying. It took the firecrew a while to get him out, with the canopy being hinged they had to dig under the cockpit and create a hole big enough for it to swing open to release him.
I know one of the guys that worked on her at the time, and yes he's still spitting nails over the decision to ground the Black 6 in the RAF Museum. He told me that there was no reason at all why Black 6 shouldn't have flown again as the damage could have been repaired reasonably easily.
I only saw it fly once as I was more into fast pointy parafin burner's back then, but it was at a Mildenhall Air Fete along with the Mossie.
I was very pleased to see clips of her flying on the Flying Legends 2005 DVD, along with the lovely BAe Mossie!

No doubt about it, superb model. As another contributor said, it looks nasty in a purposeful sort of way.....
The figures look naff but I'm really not interested in these at all. A great model of the 109 ( wouldn't it be nice if Corgo did a 1/32 190 as well....? :) )
Have to agree with you M/B that the 109 1/32nd casting from Corgi is just as good as their Spitfire casting... Top notch indeed and displayed they look excellent indeed. Shame about the figures as you have said, but like it has been commented, I hope that Corgi look at a 190 or a Stuka next.
The Stuka in 1/72nd was captured by Corgi very well and lets hope they look at a 1/32nd version. That would be awesome!
(Although there were rumours they were dropping the 1/32nd scale at one time)

this is probably the wrong thing to say, but would like to see a few more in 1/32 ,and if theyre all going to be at the 40 quid mark then i am not complaining, it will enable me to afford at lest one of evry type they do in this scale

Not the wrong to say at all Minter... Feel teh same way, just hope that Corgi continue to make them. again they would be wise to lower thr production runs and thus may stop the prices dropping "as much", but that has been flogged to death in discussions.... Woudl just love some more 1/32nd stuff...

Seems like the 1/32 range may be the achilles heel for Corgi.
Prophetic words indeed ... :(

Prophetic words indeed ... :(
Oh my.. That was dug out from the vaults indeed and quite agreee only becasue Corgi have once again not marketed, manufactured and also priced/manufactured correctly. It's the usual problem, too many, over priced and then released them together......
Have said it before and will say it again... Get the price right, get the right livery, limit the issue quantity and they will sell.... A great shame all round, but lets see what develops.... :)
Keep fingers crossed that they are taking notes and simply giving the moulds a rest. <cough>. :)

it put me off going to airshows for ten years :(
