Hi guys!
It's great to be back ... and what better way to start it all off than by bickering with Agent and Ascot again ... it's like nothing ever happened!
Of course Corgi must do a Dak. in 1/72.
Think about it. It's the only model they can turn out in more versions and schemes than even a Liberator, ...it appeals to both "civvy" and military collectors alike .... on both sides of the pond ...nobody else is doing even a half decent one, .... and finally, ... most important of all ... I WANT ONE!
I bet a quid to go to CFBC's charity [it's still extant] that you can't name one model that would offer Corgi as much potential for sales .... go on then!
As I said before .... it's great to be back ...

A Dakota in 1/72 would be perfect for Corgi. The same sort of size as the Wellington so not as expensive as a Lanc, B17 or B24, and a hugh amount of civil and military schemes. I would like a D-Day version first (BBMF?) followed by a colourful commercial version. How about if they also did a cheaper 'Legends' version as well!!

RAFF,
If Napoleon wants to sue me then bring it on!! The 'Que Sera' would look very nice in 1/72 scale. When Corgi produce a 1/72 scale Hercules they could also do an Artic version to complement it!
Agent, I suggested that Corgi produce some 1/72 scale vehicles before to complement the aircraft. I have purchased some neat little 1/72 scale jeeps for a quid a throw from Modelzone. They look very nice with the American WWII stuff.

Well, I dunno.
Far be it for me to adopt the role of Corgi apologist, but this year, among others, we have had, or will have had, 1/32 Mosquitos and 109Gs, 1/72 Wellingtons and Canberras. Now I know they may not have been everyone's choice of subject or scale, .. [you can't please all the people etc.] ... but if someone had told me a couple of years ago these models would be on the market I might have said "fat chance" too!
I reckon the concentration on 1/32 tooling restricted their budget for other 1/72 models in 2004 but I do think we may well see the emphasis change next year once the "Nice ones Corgi .... but we just ain't got the room for more!" effect has registered. IMHO we will then get a higher proportion of new tooling with a better than "evens" chance of the Beaufighter being among them... along with the Mitchell, Me 110 and Avenger .... not forgetting of course my Dak. [if anyone at Corgi has an ounce sense!]
Yer never know ... there might even be a return to the 1/144 civvy!
So cheer up me old fruit ... I see no grounds for such pessimism.

.. why.. no civil for ages.. thats why.. abandoned collector... but there again now feel that there is a case of naivety here and that I shouldnt have relied on Corgi for reperesentation of Civilian Aviation..!! :D (to me rather silly, there aint too many nutters out there willing to pay £20-£50 for die cast toys.. lose them.. you end up with loads of overpriced stock..)
I see your points, but they have to make something... so as per the plastic manufacturers, the gestation will follow the 'normal' route.. however would say that obviously there has been a 'personal element' to this.... hence the Bucc and Canberra... (and in reality I bet both of those are and will be costing the company dearly..) What to me even as a civilian collector has been the grave ommission of many military schemes that would have certainly enhanced the profitability and collectability as against what has been offered.
I think theres a lot more to the delay in Mosquito launch (somewhere theres an AWACS in amoungst that lot) than meets the eyeball... but going any further down that line will involve moderation..!!!
I think words like 'watch this space' and 'hanging by a thread' sum up the future here for the adult collector.....

As you know, I share your frustration at the lack of 1/144 civvies ... [if not jets, which do nothing for me at all] and I agree that the performance of some of the recent releases may give Corgi pause for thought.
The only model still being released that was part of the first launch is the DC-3 , and I've long been pushing for a DC-4/6/7. IMHO these would do just as well.
I still hope that particular penny may drop at Corgi. Not wishing to speak for those no longer with us, ... but I know Uncle Albert was in favour and if all comes to pass as we anticipate ... his voice may yet be heard.

Thou speak and it shall be granted! I am still trying for a 1/72nd scale Dak, so don't give up hope. I should mention the small (I think about 1/200th scale) Corgi DC-3s just released. Naw.. it did have large windows.. These planes were all of the same mould.. Ambassador.. Herald.. Fokker F27 Friendship.. all them after that.. we want to build a bigger DC3 replacement and make as many as we can and these planes do it better cos of the high wing, everyone gets a view.. fuselage is lower to the ground as propellors have a bit of clearance..no wing spars to hide or climb over..and we only need little steps to get peeps on and off....
Should have been the same for the DH146 / HS146 / BAe 146 / Avro whatever, but for some reason whilst we can design planes, we cant make em or sell em.....

Now a Varsity is something on my fantasy list. Once did a flight deck trip in one from Topcliffe and have loved 'em ever since. Nice day glow panels etc.
But, ... not a chance in hell!
1] Limited [very] range of alternative schemes, and 2] our Yank mates wouldn't have a clue what it was [with the probable exception of our Bob] .... so very few sales there.
No. About as much chance as a Firebrand.

Profile Publications #229, "Vickers-Armstrongs Warwick variants" has a number of interesting color schemes, especially the center-spread:a Coastal Command machine in the Slate Grey/Extra Dark Sea Grey scheme with D-Day stripes, ASV antennae, and carrying a lifeboat.
This would make a great companion model in 1/144 to the forthcoming ( ) 1/144 Wellington. :D

Oooooooh. Me want! What a beauty, eh? Extended leading edge devices, deployed Fowler flaps, loads of detail, including the undersurfaces. This is, apparently, a first-class model.
Thanks, Neil. I'll dream about this one tonight. ;)

A fan of the classics then...
Couldn't afford that model though (nor could I afford the one behind and to the left in all probability)...
EDIT: Wait, did you buy that? Or are you just dreaming (like I am)? As it's an attachment and because of your vague comment I'm not sure which... If it is taken in your sub pen please excuse any inappropriate comments!

No... Mrs Agent wont let me have a model that size in the sub or anywhere else for that matter... be it horizontal or vertical...
.. trouble as the warranty on Mrs Agent has expired and the bodywork has corroded a little, consequently the part exchange value has gone to pot... I would need to put a lot of cash into the deal to upgrade to that one.. and I guess it would just be another load of teething problems.. whereas we had those done with Mrs Agent when she was still under guarantee..!! :D :D :D

Die cast Vanguards with their own set of steps...!! that would be a feat of engineering..!!
That would also make for one healthy piece of diecast! A Vickers Vanguard would be a superb choice, if I do say so. As elegant as the Bristol Britannia. I'll have my Vanguard in Trans-Canada Airlines livery, please.
