Another welcome change of heart by Corgi! OK, no civil variants yet, but I'm sure Albert's got loads of colour schemes waiting in the wings.

This time last year on the old forum when the L-1049 was being discussed I suggested that the way to persuade Corgi to modify the mould was by pitching the military variants it would make possible. Looks like it worked! :D

Hope to see an AEW version eventually to go with the AWACS. :)

A C-121 from "The Blues"! Okay, Corgi, I'm sold! Well done, thank you! :D And while you're at it, give Albert some additional leeway on liveries for this bird: you're certain to sell them all out! ;)

What about the 8 on the tail??

What about the 8 on the tail??

Good question, Rusty. Took me some time to find suitable photos which illustrate the difference between the Blue Angels Connie Corgi took the markings from (with a white fuselage top), and the more common all-blue #8 scheme. I can't make out the Bureau Numbers (BuNo = serial number), but it's probably safe to assume they're both the same aircraft.

Without actually knowing, I'd guess the white fuselage top version is the later scheme. Usually this is done to decrease the inside cabin temperature by reflecting sunlight from the top of the aircraft.

Judging from the initial Corgi picture, it appears they've got it right. :)

Of course we've got it right! How could you?

Yes there was only one Blue Angels Super Connie, but as every kit I've seen is done in the first scheme, all blue with the '8' on the tail, I decided we should do this in the much smarter 1970 scheme with white roof.

Thanx Albert, much prefer the white top scheme. How about a nice 1/144th Phantom to go with the connie and herk. Surely Showcase could do it? Actually, Isn't the Phantom near enough? Cast already available. and cheap enough to buy a set. :) Get repainting them please ASAP. And then the C54??

Yes, and more's the pity: can't find a Blue Angels Herc for love or money. Even on (dare I say it)...well, you know.

I do have all the other US Hercs, though, and the Australian one which had no bids at all on you-know-where, so I snapped it up for far less than a song.

Very colorful bird. Reminds me of Australians - great folks - who went far out of their way to make some Americans feel welcome in Sydney during their "out country" R & R. Seems they still remember the role the U.S. Navy played in the battle of the Coral Sea. They seemed grateful. Couldn't pay for a drink anywhere. Great place, Australia, home of the 40 ounce Foster's......
