Hello Froggy, i also remember them for a few years ago, but did not buy them then, I like their modern jets especially, now they're very hard to get them.

I got loads of them, but they are stored away these days to make room for the 1/72's. When I bought them there were no decent 1/72 modern jets around, well that's all changed now! ;)

I started collecting the 1:100's with 5 Spits and 2 Corsairs as money was tight and the 1:72's looked a better prospect, but then I heard that Franklin Mint ditched the 1:100's and that just killed my enthusiasm for them really.
But I do like the 1:100's especially the WWII fighters. Neat, Compact and very well detailed for their size.
But as money is always an issue, I'm sort of committed to Corgi as their 1:72's seem to be going like Duracell Batteries. Especially as there seems to be more commissoned Models comming out now.
But the Armour Catalogue of 2002 shows 3 spittys I haven't got. So I'll probably get those if I can just to complete the range. But if money improves I'll try and start to collect the Me109's, Mustangs, FW190 and others

Trouble is they are an odd scale that fit in with nothing else. There are very few 1/100th scale plastic kits either. I was tempted with a few when they first came out, but resisted as they have no undercarriage, so are all in 'airborne mode', yet don't have any pilots either...bizarre!
All I have are the aerobatic team pilots' helmets that they did....always wondered if you could fit them on Action Man?

I think at the time they were the only diecast model that had (IMHO) a full range of liveries for each aircraft. They still have about 3/4 Spitfires in 1:100 Scale that corgi still haven't yet done in 1:72 Scale not to mention Mustangs, FW-190s, ME109s etc.
So I was more tempted by the range and choice than anything. That's why I don't bother with the Dragon Ones as the range is so limited, what if Dragon Pulled the plug Tomorrow? (Not to upset the Dragon Followers of course)
You'd be left with a few aircraft and a very incomplete collection. But with Armour you had an exhaustive range of liveries. So I wasn't really bothered by the odd scale and no pilot etc as long as I had a comprehensive library of faithfully detailled diecast aircraft. And of course the Diecasts weren't bad at all, they were say better than any plastic kit I could make and very presentatable, as long as you've got the full range probably.

Just to note the liveries that corgi are still yet to do in the spitfire range that have been done by armour/franklin mint and are some of my favourites are these:-

1) A Desert Camo Spit, without the air-filter under the prop and with american Roundals and the Letters HL X - 308th Sqn 31th FS Spitfire USA Airforce

2) The All Grey Colour Scheme Spitfire with thinner Invasion stripes, with signiture letters PB next to RAF Roundal. I don't think this spitty is a VB Though

3) A couple of spits with Italian and French Markings etc etc etc

Please note though I know that Spitty had many Mods over the war years etc etc, and I don't want this mean't as a moan or anything as I am very very pleased with Corgi's range with what seems to be a very exhaustive range anyway.
But they are so close to making me a collector from a merely satisfied customer to a jump over the moon, buy everyone a drink type of customer. Words seem a little inadequate but I think you may get the jiste of what I'm trying to say.
But I know Corgi timescales etc and I truely believe that they will eventually cover these liveries one day.
And thats the reason I buy only Corgi now. Because the quality is excellent and liveries are many. So I can wait for as long as takes to start moving into different themes like for example next years Aces of the Common Wealth etc.
Oh yes I may still have a rant and moan on the forum now and again, but hey that's half the fun of collecting and at least they'll know how I feel about the individual pieces.
