Many years ago i used to be a keen modeller! Thankfully Corgi enables most of us to obtain the end result without the 'Blood Sweat and Tears!'
In recent months i have been building several kit models to compliment my AA range, all in 1:72 my kits include
a completed Hawker Typhoon
a completed Piper Cub
a completed DH Chipmunk
in progress are a Blenheim and a Spitfire MK XIV
Am i alone in this or does anyone else out there complement there collection???

I recently bought the mrs a 1:72 Tiger Moth as she likes biplanes and flew in one a couple of years ago and Corgi are unlikely to produce one. I haven't built a kit for years so I hope it looks good enough at the end to display with my AAs. If it does I may make her a Swordfish and Dragon Rapide. It keeps the mrs sweet.

hey plumstix, get the mrs the little diecast Showcase Moth in the RAF At War set. My wifey thinks it's real cute  , so you're bound to score some bonus points there! ;)

Back to Charley's point, I would agree that this diecast obsession has only fueled the fire for more. I hadn't built a 1/72 WWII fighter kit in years, but was recently compelled to build a P-39 which now sits among the diecast on a spare Corgi stand.
A funny aside - my Brother-in-law, a moderate Corgi collector himself, saw it and went "huh?..." so I had a bit of fun at his expense letting him think he missed out on a limited edition. :D

Well I've been toying with the idea of a 1/48th Hawker Typhoon, but need to clear out the shed a little more, so I can do the model building.
Oh that and having 28 hours in the day, 8 days a week, and 5 weeks a month......

Hi charley.
No your not alone. Although i hadn't built any plastic kits since my younger days i have recently purchased a Fairey Firefly 1/72 and am just in the process of building an Airfix Ju-88 which i bought years ago. Trouble is the work in progress is taking an age to complete :D . Never seem to be able to find the time.
Makes you realise just how convenient AA's are not to mention the fact that the Airfix Ju-88 was worth a lot more because of its age than it is now i have started it :( .

Well, thanks, e/m, it's nice of you to say so. The Bf is a joint effort of mine and Otaki's.
This is a 1/48 model of:
Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6/R6 Güstav
III Gruppe, 7.staffel Jagdgeschwader 27 "Afrika"
Southern Italy, July, 1943
This aircraft is equipped with Rüstsätze, or Field Conversion sets, for the drop tank and underwing cannon, and represents the Bf 109 restored and on display at the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum.
I'd be interested in seeing some photos of Charley's work, wouldn't you?

BSteinIPMS.
Your welcome, that is a real gift what you have there. The detail in the cockpit is excellent and the finish is terrific  .
And yes i think charley should post some pics too.

Yes - lovely pics of the Bf.
Model kits, and the choice of same, have evolved beyond recognition since my schooldays. As someone else said, it's the time...and for me, the painting, which never looks anywhere near as good as a diecast - just take a look at Dragon's 190D to see what I mean !

With you on this one Charley.
Used to be a keen modeller, stopped a couple of years ago and recently re-started to compliment the diecast collection. Only build those I feel are unlikely to be done in diecast in the foreseeable future. Currently building an ME163 Komet (what a little 'un!).
Mr Stein - please stop posting those pics of your handywork. I look at mine and want to cry... :(

Blenheim and Spit still in progress (Ordered an air brush! Thought id give one a go!!! Tips greatly appreciated!! :o )
Typhoon is on display with Hurricane and Hunter!!!!
Most of my time is being spent currently 'restoring' an old WW2 control tower!!! :D
However a Seahawk is on its way to Charley Town!!!! :D

Even I build kits in 1/72nd and 1/144th scales and use some of my models for Corgi to use as references. I belong to the IPMS Aerobatic Teams Special Interest Group, so that's why you've got a lot of Corgi aerobatic team models! Also have a keen interest in airliners of the 1950s-60s, hence I am determined that more of these will appear!
