Here's a good one:

I found this.....thing.....there. :D (Yes, I know it's a Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer) Looks rather smart in its raspberry ripple livery. Wouldn't this make a good 1/144 candidate for both civil and military markings for the second half of 2005.....? ;) But, can it fly?

Wait.................late-breaking news....it can fly!

Hi Bob,
This lives near me at Coventry Airport (somewhere in middle england) owned by Air Atlantic/Atlantique. I have piccies in this scheme and it's previous Atlantique colors. Agree on the web site-one, of the best. If you look deeper you will find many pictures of the real 1:1 of Corgi's Aviation Archive Civil planes. The actual registration. Lovely pic of G-AOYH Northeast Viscount at what looks like Heathrow. Most taken at Gatwick/Heathrow/Manchester.

P.S. sorry about the TWA connie, but something had to be done.

I've just held a wake for the Connie, G/B. I've been looking for this one for ages as a match for the "polished metal" Connie I have, and to see my dreams, my hopes, my aspirations all go up in smoke, well, it's taken a heavy toll on my stocks of Newcastle Brown Ale.....

Magna Models have just released a 1/72nd scale resin kit of the Twin Pioneer - another of my favourites, but not the slightest hope in hell of getting Corgi to do it in metal! The RAF Museum at Cosford also have one preserved in desert camouflage.

For those newcomers who may wonder about Agent's cryptic remark, here's the story:

On the old forum it was hypothesized the reason that neither the Royal Air Force or Royal Navy flew Lockheed Constellations was the fact that there wasn't a pilot in the whole kingdom who could handle three pieces of tail at one time....

Agent, whose sense of aviation history is not to be trifled with, countered with the fact that BOAC operated Connies for years. He additionally mentioned these three-tailed British aircraft: SA Twin Pioneer, Airspeed Ambassador, Avro York, and the Avro Manchester.

The Yank contingent were embarrassed to have to concede the point, but were reluctant to award "three tail" status to the Manchester since, strictly speaking, it had only 2 1/2 tails, the central dorsal fin later being removed as having been found unnecessary. They also felt the inclusion of the York was nebulous at best since its central fin contained no rudder.

Moreover, in a brilliant example of "one upsmanship" the Yanks offered photographic evidence that all this was beside the point: American pilots were able to handle no fewer than four pieces of tail at one time.

Naturally, it took a helicopter pilot to do this...... :D

And the English to handle twin tails, 1 rotor, 2 propellors...... :D
