Here's all I know:

Adrian M. Balch is a British aviation historian, photographer, and prolific author. Several of his books suggest he might even be a modeler. I have these six titles of his, all that I'm aware he's had published:

1. "Aerobatic Teams of the World", Airlife Publishing Ltd., 1986.

2. "Boeing 727", Airline Markings #6, Airlife Publishing Ltd., 1992.

3. "Testing Colours - British Test, Trials and Research Aircraft of A&AEE, RAE & ETPS Since 1960", Airlife Publishing Ltd., 1993.

4. "Vintage Glory - Airline Colour Schemes of the '50s and '60s", Airlife Publishing Ltd., 1994.

5. "Airline Nostalgia - Classic Aircraft in Colour", Airlife Publishing Ltd., 1999.

6. "de Havilland Twin Booms - Vampire, Venom and Sea Vixen", Airlife Publishing Ltd., 2002.

It was surprising to me to see how many of the specific aircraft Corgi has modeled are featured in these volumes, which leads me to believe the author was granted access to Corgi's photo files.

Most of these were reprinted by Motorbooks International, Osceola, Wisconsin, and I was able to find all six of these at various Internet booksellers such as amazon.com, addall.com, bn.com, & etc.

All are worth having just for the beautiful photographs of British aircraft.

Thanks B/S, yes it was I that originally posed that question, so appreciate the good feedback and your wisdom and knowledge - Thanks.....

Interesting that Corgi have based a lot on these books or is it the other way around?

I think you missed the comment on the KLM Viscount- I'm sure before it was released I read that this guy had helped Corgi to get the color scheme correct. Maybe Albert can confirm this, or shoot me down? Would explain what your saying BOB, or is it a weird co-incidence of X-files magnitude??

I'm not certain of this, G/B, since I don't go that far back in Corgidom. Since I've been collecting - for about the past year or so - I've always thought Albert was Corgi's sole consultant, color authority, and markings policeman. Might have been someone before him, I suppose, but I don't know.

But I do believe, based on the economies I've seen them practice, that Corgi wouldn't have two consultants on the payroll simultaneously...

If what you say is true, this Balch fellow must have been before Albert's time.

Possibly B/S, possibly.... ;)

Did Balch get his bullet then B/S, and as such we have new chaps in now or certainly in the near past, hence the drop in the AA's range and choices??

Good question, CFBC. I don't know. I think you'd have to query Albert regarding the history of Corgi's consultants and where he fits in the picture vis-a-vis Adrian M. Balch. My crystal ball is somewhat murky at this distance from Leicester. :D

Regardless, I sense that whomever is consulting for Corgi has only limited input into the viability of new tooling/new liveries. I gather that Corgi makes up their minds what they're going to produce and then they ask Albert to research the colors and markings to ensure accuracy.

Only a theory, mind..... ;)

 How about the theory that Messrs. Balch and Ross are one and the same??? ;)

Another long-forgotten thread emerges from the murky depths of the forum....

Adrian Balch wrote an interesting article about his involvement in the film 'Hanover Street' ( awful film, great B-25s ) in Warbirds Worldwide No 18.

Not a lot of people know that !;)
