Naw its the old photies.. the old colour schemes... when traveling by air was a) a luxury and b) an experience to remember rather than one you want to forget as quickly as possible..!!

Try boarding the Bristol Britannia at DX, that was real flying, and you didn't have to wrap your legs around your ears if you were 6ft plus! :D

Well me parents though they would save em selves a bob or two.. usually went by Vanguard.. always fascinated me that a Vanguard was as fast.. well actually a hell of a site faster than a Spitfire or Mossie..
Mind you Concordes could see off Lightnings....

airliners.net has always been one of my favorite sites. It's quite addicting
