I often smile at bloopers on e-bay - especially for aircraft models.
We've already had 'Pete Townsend's Hurricane' - conjuring up an amusing mental image of the Who frontman taking to the skies. Now I've seen 'Focke Wulf Ta152H high-attitude fighter'.
Don't you just sooo hate fighters with attitude ?

Amusing description to justify a BIN of $169.....
This was a 2004 special limited commission by the Corgi Heritage Centre of only 1500 units worldwide, making this the rarest of the Corgi Flying Aces series of aircraft. These sold out immediatley and are now very difficult to find and highly prized by collectors. Many of these are selling for as much as $350.00 on the collectors market.
Nice to know the pension plan is coming along nicely...!!

 A somewhat judgemental remark my friend !!! These sets like many other Corgi models suffered their fair share of ullages, like as not the 'Star' piece broken or otherwise unsaleable !!!...... ;)
Another possible explanation is that in common with many other sets, models were split to try and sell them when at the time no one wanted the whole thing!!.......

Agree with you there Spock.. who moderates the moderator...? It might be a bust up collection, the Lanc may be a presentation gift... It might come relatively free gratis if the Hurri and Spit go for £50 plus.. If its one less then Mr Steath and Co.. yours is worth fractionally more... perhaps a result all round.... :D :D :D

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you check the £130 'buyer' s previous purchases, one is for a cheap set of postage stamps from the same seller. So either

Not amusing ebay descriptions
Why do people describe their items as never removed from box when they clearly have?Received the B.O.B dogfight pair today that i bought from ebay which were advertised so.Then how did the under carridge fix themselves to the aircraft?I dont have a problem with the planes being displayed seeing as thats what they are for as long as they're in mint condition.Don't hide the truth, tell it as it is.If someone is desperate to get hold of a certain model, displayed or not won't make a lot of difference in the price.

With the number of models on sale, they should use a compulsory grid, as they do for cars.. then only the dealers or a very few can actually state that the product is new... The other thing now is if it is a s/hander, its best to tell em what bits you expect in the box... :(

goonybird
7th February 2005, 23:36
Always open and remove model to check for damage/missing bitz etc. A minty model is what it says. MINT. i.e. no visible signs of wear or use, including packing. Some people selling on ebay appear to be from a different planet and have a strange inability to accurately describe models. I think most of us get a feel for the item on sale through experience. Although in N/Bs case if Item described New, that turns out to be used could be a case to answer for.
Mind you when you see shops repacking corgi AA's that have been on display for months (and subsequently damaged), and send them back to Corgi, where do they go?? I wouldn't be surprised if they are sold on cheap to the trade to appear at your local toyfair
Would explain a lot considering the condition some of the boxes/models that are sold as new.
spock1
7th February 2005, 23:43
This may come as a shock to many but the strict definition of new is simply that the item is 'New' and bought as such from a dealer who in turn has acquired it as new from a trade as opposed to retail source. Once item sold into the consumer market any subsequent sales must by definition be secondhand though use of the words 'Mint,' 'Unused' or the like may be acceptable if that it is indeed the case!!...........
goonybird

So Spock, what happens to all the returns to Corgi?? They must resell them somewhere? These are still effectively "new" as unsold from the end chain.

7th February 2005, 23:57
 Mr. GB,
Said items if returns and subsequently let back out on to the market should strictly be described as 'Seconds' and better still clearly marked as such and in a manner where there can clearly be no confusion whatsover........ ;)
:( Unfortunately this is clearly not the case and many consumers are simply being conned as indeed are some traders who think they are getting new items when in fact they are seconds or rejects!!......
Any manufacturer worthy of seeing themselves as brand leaders should bite the bullet on this one and see that defective/damaged product is dealt with in an appropriate manner ie. destroyed or sold as such......
I know of at least one model railway company that adopts this approach. All returns are checked over and where possible repaired. They are then sold both with the item and box marked accordingly......... :)

I've been lucky so far in that all of the models bought on ebay have been fine, although a little disappointed with the condition of some of the boxes. :(
Beware...."Mint in box" is not the same as "mint in mint box"!

It's not so much whether it's new or second hand that bothers me,lets face nearly all the older models are likely to be second hand." Its the never been removed from box" description that bugs me ,because i unwrapped the box and saw that the wheels up under carridge wre missing from their place,so i had to remove the models from the box to make sure they were present and correct.Like i said in my last post it does'nt bother me if they have been displayed or not as i display all my models anyway.

Oh dear, yeah... I received an AA in bubblewrap and brown paper today... Luckily and very luckily it was not damaged.... Or said Item would have been heading back........ Canna believe it..... All too save a little postage that I had paid for.....
Honesty is the best policy on Evilbay N/B, I agree..... :)
It wasn't a legend model was it? I bought the Ju87 for £4.99 plus £2 p&p. It was sent in a jiffy bag and totally goosed  The plane was repairable but the plastic packaging was beyond help. I now always make sure it will be securely packaged, by sending the sellers a message saying how I expect the model to be packaged. So far no one has complained to my message :D

I always follow one "rule" when selling & packing....I ask myself "would I be happy if I received the item in this packing?". Thankfully no complaints so far.....

Yes, agreed D/F Man..... If yer don't like to receive it in that condition yerself or not happy, then don't send it in that condition....... Bit like humour really..... Gotta be able ter take it, to give it...... If not, shut yer mouth!! :D
Think I said yesterday, I was lucky also.. Received an AA in brown paper and bubblewrap..... No carboard.... Lucky it was ok, just a minor crease underneath..... Still, should have been excellent condition..... Hmmmm.

Deal with "chancers and carpetbaggers" get "flatpacked" models :(

As sent in a Jiffy bag again, ended up being a do it yourself job  . Tail was loose in bag as was the undercarriage! Glued wheels back on now and looks fine :) . Gemini Jets Court Line Tristar arrived today. Great!! :)
Uh, not so great.
First mistake was addressed to wrong house! Neighbor delivered it to us. Second, was one layer of thin bubble wrap and then outer wrapped in brown paper! Mr postie decided it would fit through our neigbors letter box! Hence one very badly crushed box, including damaged inner plastic carton. Surprisingly plane ok though. Obviously have emailed seller and await reply. Was not particularly cheap either, as this is apparently getting rare. So I estimate value now only 50-75% of what I paid.

I'm sure Nona would sell you them for a couple of pounds each maximum and throw in the wheels for nothing. I was going to bid £5 on them as I could do with a couple of spare stands for my converted Legends, but I'll just call Nona and buy them direct from her. Should have told them i was a law enforcement officer.. bet thats the only one they bother doing anything about...
Basically its buyer beware ( as it should be really.. but at least at the auction house the goods are there..)
E Bay IMHO is just becoming a distribution outlet for the dealers*.. the older models now IMHO are not really worth bidding a lot on unless you ask a few questions or know the dealer/seller...
As it is now receiving regular spots on the tele.. it wont be too long before it goes a little tyts up.. when things get that popular, they usually do... Good place for money laundering .. eh Mr D.... :D

The problem is defining whether selling your collectables should be treated as income (therefore subject to income tax) or a capital gain (where in most years you won't cumulatively exceed your annual allowance). Unfortunately, the IR don't seem to have a set rule, but the more you sell (particularly if you buy them shortly beforehand) then the more likely you are going to be classed as "dealing" and the gain treated as Income Tax.

(As an aside that, To me the black Yankee Canberra is prettier than the RAF silly stripey Canberra but has dropped like a preverbial stone in the pricing stakes..)

Just one of those days! Again. Just had a ebay listing for some Hi-fi cancelled 12 hours before finishing. Accused by Ebay of spamming?? Very hacked off as listed for seven days. why on earth they couldn't give me a chance to reword title, g*d only knows. Have sent a stinker of email, but dont expect to get anywhere. Worse still is have to completely re-do the ad as completely deleted. NOT a good day today. £150 worth of camera posted over a week ago hasn't arrived, Buyer a bit Pi$$ed off (understandably).
Then to cap it all Local auction had a job lot of 15 AA's. Hilites were Wick me109, BoB HE111, 44Sqn Lanc, Air sea Spitfire and others.Lolites zero and unboxed us army chinook. Went for 260 quid + 10% buyers fees. I estimated Lot only worth about £300 to sell, on a good day with the wind behind it! Would have been happy at half that.

6th April 2005, 20:55
you got Cyrus? good stuff, never had any myself. PS upgrade supposed to vastly improve sound. Me, I prefer Valves (Tubes if Bob reads this!) but 1000vDC (radford STA100) and kids didn't mix. Still happy with my reVox.

6th April 2005, 21:23
worth checking out the cash convertor type shoppies. They sometimes make momentus c*ck-ups on their pricing. Watch it though as most speakers far eastern sourced now, gale, wharfedale, Mission, Goodmans, tannoy. Better to get quality s/h examples. 770's probably rock but same problem as yours. foam surrounds disintegrate. Me, I prefer Bextrene or similar. Lasts longer.
Then theres the wife! " you're not putting those in here!" My Tannoy Monitor golds went coz of this (sob). Got away with Kef 104.2 (just) Do they rock!
Maybe ought to go HiFi forum b4 upsetting the Tank drivers :D

Thought about some 104's but hope they is a lot better than the 70's 104.. Might try some AE1's.. want something small that still sounds real... BOSE brilliant for 22.5647 minutes, then yer just get bored. Think I am going to have trouble as have moved the Missions out and she aint gonna let anything that size come back in the room again...
They might be able to multi task but they (females) has crap hearing as far as hi fi goes... ace hearing when it comes to some unsavoury comment you make 20 yards down the road..!! :D :D
Best speakers Quad ESL63's... kin lovely....

Agent, suprised no-ones suggested that you get a sub :D (not that sort of SUB)!!! and some small speakers for the higher frequencies. You can hide the subwoofer in the corner somewhere or I believe there is one designed as a coffee table - but it costs a few thousand... :(
Agent X20
6th April 2005, 22:33
Yep.. Ive looked at the likes of BOSE etc but I find that I tire easily from these satellite/woofer set ups.. its nothing to what the Missions were.. :(
I dont need eight .. just the two..will do.. we are not allowed such luxuries as THX... etc.. suppose I could fool her with that KEF set up or the new Yamaha number with what is it 42 units in it....!!

6th April 2005, 22:41
I have four large floorstanders as the main channels, one front centre, two centre rear and a sub. These do take up a lot of space, but I agree sound better than the sub/small satellite combinations... as for the cabling!!!

Too many models listed. nearly 1000 in the corgi aviation section. Possibly the result of recent dumping. Although appears to be caused by a couple of the regular "I'm going to list 200 models from 99p" merchants. Floods the listing and buyers get passe with it all. And just when prices were firming up as well.

Yep that would explain it , on the whole I have been impressed at how the aces series has held up after some of the ' scare stories ' of the last 8 weeks but is it me or are there a few more on , on a more regular basis than usual ?? I appreciate that once deliveries start arriving there are 50 odd RST Hurri / Spits probably up for sale but at one stage last week a certain aces plane had 8 on the bay , the majority with the ' Rare ' sign up !!
