Hi guys,

Found out today that 1st Choice Collectables are releasing a 1/200 scale RAF VC-10 model on a new 1/200 Scale tooling.

Unlink other 1/200 Scale VC-10's this one will be around the £45 mark.

I'm sorry the picture isn't great but as soon as I get a better one I will ask CFBC to attach it.

These are being imported by the same importer of Gemini / Phoenix / Sky Marks so the quality should be excellent.

This will be the first of what I believe several models of the same airframe over its service life. I believe that it is going to be released as in the picture below (ZA144) in its RAF livery and future releases will also be of its earlier life in civillian liveries. i.e BOAC / British Airways

I'm not sure yet when it will hit the UK shores but I believe it will be here for the summer.

Further details to follow as soon as I get them.

Thanks,

Mark :)

bah!.....doors are vastly over rated & gaping seams around the cabin let in the nice fresh air :D I still loves me Corgi, I does :o

These new 1/200's do look promising

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Jet-X claimed their involvement in the development of a 1/200 scale VC-10... hmmm.

I was under the impression Jet-X had this one on the way. Maybe they've changed their name?

Dill. I am sure if you ask nicely enough you can get a LT red VC10 to go with the RM

Hi,

1st Choice is nothing to do with Jet X mate. 1st Choice is run by the Gemini / Sky Marks / Phoenix importer and he is really good with quality control issues on Sky Marks models which he has had produced as specials so I have every confidence that the quality of these VC-10's will be worth waiting for.

Picked up one of these yesterday, not taken it out of the box yet but will have a good look later - at first glance, don't like the printed panel lines:(

They have'nt tried very hard to hide the joins have they? The 2nd photo is definitely the most flattering.

I think I'll stick to my Corgi VC-10....with the glue-in cockpit :o

Oh dear that really is awful, not sure what's with the angle the tail is sat at, the aerial on the fuselage is rather chunky and as for the inboard wing fences  they must be a scale metre high! And that's before we start on the printed panel lines and 'orrible wing join. Sorry to say it, but not even the Corgi one is as bad as this.... :(

Someone suggested the tailplane/stabiliser is moveable, is this correct?

Could be the reason for its attitude though i must admit it has been in the same position in all the pics i have seen:unsure:

This appears to be a scaled down Airfix K.2, with a few additions -the wings give it away! It even has the leading edge root ‘step’ you get where the Airfix wing joins the fuselage! A few other errors are carried over from the kit wing, the inboard flap actuator fairings are missing and those on the wing are a little on the small size. As already pointed out by Craig, the wing fences are too large and should be about 2/3 rds the height.
All the aerials are to large - more like 1/144 scale and are incorrect in shape and colour and I don’t think the K.2 had the ‘towel rail’ on top of the fuselage.
The fuselage is slimmer in the middle in plan form ( but then most corgi airliners suffered from ‘banana’ shaped fuselages!) but looks very good in profile.
The overall colour is too dark and the hue is too brown. The roundels and fin flash are too dark, as are the yellow walk lines. The wings and tail are covered in very dark and over-sized panel lines.
The nose u/c doors are scribed but the main u/c doors are printed?? Also the chrome wheels look a little ‘toy’ like.

If this model had been a better colour and not had the printed panel lines, it would have been an acceptable effort. However, there are better 1/200 scale models out there and I expect this model to be easily surpassed by one of the other manufacturers.

Oh and no, the tailplane doesn't move!
