There is image and file recovery software available although I haven't (yet) needed to try it. You might like to have a look at this (http://www.snapfiles.com/features/eimagerecovery-8032-474720.php) which if I have read correctly provides a free trial download. Worth trying before parting with any money.

You might also try this (http://www.artplus.hr/adapps/eng/dpr.htm)

Sorry to hear Subs and just seen this thread after reading your Berlin A/S thread.

Can I ask what the memory card is doing/saying? Is it being recognised or recognising any of the photo's/items on the card? Error messages or just nothing showing?

Hate to say it mate, but it is not sounding hopeful.. Obviously not even letting you on to the card is not good.

Is it a branded named card?

I had this with a Sandisk a few months ago, rubbed and cleaned up the connections or metal bits showing and it worked ok, but the next week it did the same and I just sent it back for an exchange....

Also I always protect mine with anti-static bags when travelling on planes etc as had one go down a couple of years ago coming back off holiday.. These tips might help? (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/66133/)

Apart from that, I really hate to say it... Especially what pics you may have on there! :(

Are you reading direct from the camera?

If so might be worth trying in another reader or taking to a photo developer such as jessops and see if they can read it.

Do 'you lot' remove the cards from your camera then...

After a bent CF pin ages ago on camera no1.. (thank gawd it also accepted SD's) I am she - ite scared of taking the card out of me camera... Last card in to the camera was a 2GB which gives about 350 RAW shots... (I can see the point of seperate cards if yer filling them up..).. so I currently always download from the camera.... and now 8GB is financially acceptable..

Sorry to steal your thread UKS....

I would also try another reader.. were the photos coming up on the camera display.... or rather does the camera still show the information as to whats on the card... as in so many photos left etc...

Always Agent. Never download from camera as so slow via USB, use a direct reader although SD card (2gb). I have four 2gb SD cards as I had one card go down on me and I lost every photograph a while ago (trip to Australia) so rather than having just one card, then if one goes down I lose a proportion of the photographs if I get to the other cards. If not, still in the same bout as you! :D

:) USB is fine for me..... as its USB 2.... okay it takes its time but its fast enough in that I can go and get a snifter from the cabinet and a handfull of peanuts... Is it not the putting in and taking out that is doing the damage to these cards...???.. thats me point I was trying to make...

......Bent pin mate and that is your camera fcked.... well it seems to be about three figures to get it fixed.... its not a warranty jobbie as its your heavy handedness that caused it... and of course as its over a year since you got the camera, its only worth a £100..... and theres not many with two slots... (thank gawd an S602 was..)

One of course has always had these sorta problems.. those lovely days when you tore open the fat envelope that came through the door with yer printz in it... to find not one had come out!!

Camera with dual cards, simultaneously writing.... oooo'er...

Even worse was when you heard the smashed glass plates rattling about BEFORE you opened the fat envelope.:p

I've never downloaded direct from the camera personally and I am always changing cards. I tend to get through 10GB at least on a weekend show and would much rather use a load of 1 or 2 GB cards and run the possibility of losing a few images than using a stonking great card and losing the whole lot if it crashes.

As for bent pins, I've never heard of that one before I must admit, either they are exceedingly delicate on the particular camera that you are using, or the cameras that I use are built a bit more heavy duty.

As with any sort of removable media - cards, CD/DVD, disks etc, they are exactly that, built to be removed.

Going back to the original problem, I did have a card crash a couple of years back and used the software that Lexar provide (called guess what?...Image Rescue!) and it worked! But you do HAVE to remove the card from the camera and use it via a PC. It took a while for the full reading to go through - hence the reason for using PC rather than camera or the batteries would go flat - but although a few images were lost, most were rescued.

Part of the secret is, only use 'Name' cards NEVER cheap budget ones. Personally, the only ones (CF mind you) that deserve space in my case are Lexar Pro, Sandisk Extreme III or the equivalent Kingston cards.

Personally i don't (but I also don't have a high end digi like most of you lot)

If I was having problems reading the card though i would try with an external reader.

Card in my camera (CF) does come out very easily if required though, and i would not worry about causing damage by doing this.

I can assure you on a CF card it is quite easy to do..:D

Yep removeable..... and certain cards are far easier and better designed than others...

Certainly may be easy to bend the pins, if you have partaken in too many "Units" of Merlot:LOL:

Personally haven't had the problem yet, across three cameras which Use Compactflash.
Agree on many smaller cards. Used to have to change film after 36+ photos.
Note a lot of unbranded Memory Cards still made by some of the major Semiconductor manufacturers (Toshiba etc) so probably fine, nowt wrong with Kingston, Viking, Dane-elec et al.
Bigger problem is Fakes. Fell foul of this last year. 4GB Sandisk Extreme III.
Works fine (and very fast) But won't use it again. Sits in it's Packaging awaiting a Boot Sale.;)

Compactflash derived from PCMCIA (and IDE) interface. Hence the pin layout. Easy to use a C/flash to PCMCIA adaptor to upload piccies to a laptop (and fast)

Too right.... one glass is not nearly enough.... poorly designed system though - Memory stick IMHO far better:D

Good luck with Jessops...

Wasn't really recommending the company :) just an example of a shop who has these facilities (as UKsubs may not necessarily have a card reader with his PC)
