Just so I don't get turned orange on the Bf110 thread. Can I suggest a model making tips section on the Forum where the gifted Bob the Yank could give prospective builders the benefit of his wisdom. I'm sure it would be very informative.

Good idea!
Tip No.1
Send your un-made models to Bob the Yank to make for you! :D

I see a possible business venture here.
You purchase your kits at a model shop then send it to an expert builder. You get a beautifully made model back and when the missus complains at this expensive looking item you can show her the receipt for a £10 from the model shop so that she can't complain even though you've actually coughed up fifty quid to get that Tristar you've been wanting.

There is no Mrs FTD. I'm still a young twentysomething. It was a theoretical Mrs since most of the gentlemen populating this board seem to be waging a war or maintaining a peace with the significant other.

Snaffs would like a modeling column, while FTD advises me he wants to build a 1/144 vac-form kit of a Short Belfast, an ambitious project of an interesting airplane. Moreover, FTD ponders the differences and degree of difficulty of injection-molded styrene kits, cast resin kits, and vac-form kits.
Here are some of the better Internet modeling sites which should prove useful and interesting if you like aircraft, even if you don't plan on modeling. :)

Thank you, for that info. didn't know liquid cement would be so damaging. I have to reattach a small aerial of a Corgi model due to an accident, does that mean superglue is the safest thing to use becuase its a painted surface?

Depends, FTD. The absolute safest adhesive to use would be white glue. It produces a reasonable - but not unbreakable - bond. White glue will not affect any painted surface. It usually dries to a matt or satin sheen. The downside is that if the antenna gets knocked again it will probably come off.
Next on the list would be cyanoacrylate adhesive, or CA, commonly called "super glue", although that's a trade name here. This produces a much stronger bond than white glue. If I were using this I'd put a drop on something waterproof and disposable, then transfer a small amount with a toothpick to the antenna base. The downside here is that CA will affect paint, may leave a whitish residue, and will dry glossy. A big smear can result on your model if you're not careful.
Lastly, you might consider a small amount of 5-minute epoxy glue. This will also produce a strong and permanent bond, but will take longer to set up and will dry with a glossy sheen. :)

You're quite welcome, TDM, although perhaps Mrs. TDM doesn't thank me... :D

Very nice indeed, Bob. :)
Mrs D only a little concerned about space they take up......but happy as it keeps me quiet when she's watching the soaps on the TV and it stops me "talking" to strange folks that inhabit website forums.... (well, forum in the singular actually :D )

I have discovered a picture of what a 1:144 Shorts Belfast in the livery of HeavyLift looks like and it is EXCELLENT. Unfortunately the website I got it from has replaced the picture with another of its new releases (very nice aswell, 1:72 civil Embraer ERJ 145 in American Eagle Livery) and the picture is a rather large bitmap so I can't post it :( Will upload it to my Yahoo gallery as soon as I can, if it accepts bitmaps. Otherwise I can only email it to people :(

You know of the gentleman, Agent? By all accounts this is not an easy kit to do, and he's made it look very good. I'm impressed. :)

He was a very prolific poster on a modelling newsgroup, rather like yourself whose efforts made mine pale into insignificance... and usually had me dribbling/drooling all over me keyboard... with myself and many others congratulating him on his efforts....
Then I discovered pornography..!! :D :D :D

Wow, plenty of info there Bob! Thanks :)
In one of the listings there was a great site showing Allied aircraft in German markings. Don't know if it's been mentioned before but would make some interesting schemes for Corgi :)

If you want some of these, Snafs, you might have a quiet word with Lofty. It appears that his modeling borders on the unconventional and unorthodox and he can presto....chango....any Corgi model you'd care to have.....!!! :D

That's okay, FTD, here's a reasonable facsimile, all in 1/144:
Teaser #1: http://airalex.homestead.com/files/WELSHNimrod.JPG
Teaser #2: http://airalex.homestead.com/files/DC7.jpg
Teaser #3: http://airalex.homestead.com/files/BAC_LIGHTNING1.JPG
...and here's his home page: http://airalex.homestead.com
And further: http://144.0catch.com/mnindex.html
...which site includes two 1/144 model Belfast photos.
And, of course, being very naughty, I have to draw attention to the Valiant to be found there.
