What are people thoughs on the existence of these ranges and the other smaller planes? Do you see them as
1-a waste of time and resources better spent on making us 1:144 civils
2-a marketing ploy to get the kiddies hooked on AA
3-a way shove a few more little planes in the disply case?
4-a way for Corgi to test the waters before delivering big models eg VC10
5-nothing more than toys
If you are in favour of them are there any new aircraft you want to see in these collections? Or, like me, do you wish they were actually all in 1:144 rather than just the P38s?

I would prefer them all to be 1/144.
They do have some interesting aircraft in this range. EG Russian Hurricane which is an example of what some of us would like to see in 1/72

Personally a good way to attract future collectors. Nice little models and even some you can't get in bigger scales (P-38).
My son has plenty of these and it brings them into the affordable pocket money zone - fairs offer some separates for £2.

They might be toys, might be filler, but I like 'em. Overall the accuracy is very good, though I think the Me109 canopy is too wide. I would have preferred they stuck to a single scale, at least one scale for fighters, one for bombers/transports, and so forth for airliners, space, armor, etc.

Uncanny. I agree 100% with everything AutomaticWeapons says here.
Who wouldn't like these? Bear in mind the photos are two and three times the size of the actual models. :)
These are nice little models, and since they're unlimited editions which are inexpensive, you don't feel guilty when you tinker with them a bit.....a technical pen here, a dab of paint there..... :D

Are the jets not close to 144 anyway? Harrier Phantom etc. Still like a blue angels Phantom. And a couple of the Harriers refuelling from the Victor tanker?
I just collect the civvies. No surprise there then! :D

Why all the lines..? Would they not look better without..?

Why all the lines..? Would they not look better without..?
The panel lines show up more starkly in the photos than they do on the models. I use light grey ink which, when viewing under normal circumstances, makes the aircraft "come alive" for me. The panel lines are more subtle and understated than they appear and I think the models look a bit bland without them.
Since the aircraft are so small - two to three times as small as they appear in the photos - I think the panel lines just jump out at you when you're viewing larger images.
One nice aspect of using water-soluble ink is that anything you don't like can be easily removed with a damp cotton swab.
Still, I agree that not everyone would like even the understated panel lines. Owner's preference.... :D
But all this is a side issue: the main point is that the Showcase line can't easily be dismissed as "toys". I think they deserve a closer look.

Was just looking at the Corgi AWAC and its accompnaying Model Power F15 escort. I don't know whether to ask for a Tornado ADV or a Typhoon to go with the RAF Sentry

Since we are talking box sets in the 1:72 thread, how about a Typhoon box set, the 4 designer nations UK, Italy, Germany and Spain. If the Showcase sets are made to appeal to children then the Typhoon is the sort of plane children would like the look of aswell as appealing to collectors, especially in 1:144. Greek and Austrain versions also welcome.
Or how about a next generation fighter set with Typhoon, Rafael, Gripen and Raptor. Maybe throw a Flanker in aswell

I like it! Add a JSF as well!

Nice choice.
I think if the Showcase models aren't meant to appeal to young collectors they may not yet have formed an idea about aircraft history and thus appreciate some of the current planes more than Hurricanes, Corsairs and P38s. Things like a Raptor or Typhoon are the planes they are growing up and seeing in their computer games and on tv. These are the planes that are going to attract them. It also means we can have Typhoons to go with our RAF and NATO Sentry's.

This is what I do not understand about the hound.. you have all these independents making the wonga with the interesting subjects whilst the mainstream Corgi stuff doesnt seem to show that same intuitive thinking... still should have a 1/72 Hawk... IMHO... bet they would sell more of those than some of the stuff they are producing..

They're not bad, P51D, just a bit thick in the fuselage. A bit under 1/144 scale though - more like 1/151 by my measurements. :)

Has anyone seen the Macgregor Industries diecast, they normally have a splurge in the Flypast mag? :)
