Good stuff! Like that Fortress particularly. Never quite understood why Corgi haven't done a Bomber Command B-17, would be very cool! :)

The one at the far end is a Stirling, isn't it? That one is quite, well, huge...

Very nice collection of Bomber Command birds Datacroft. That B17 looks like a very early version no? The Stirling does look preety big but I'm thinking it must be the angle of the shots. They had a shorter wing span than later bombers.

Slightly less wingspan, but bigger in most other respects ;)

............shorter so it would fit an RAF Hangar.. cost thousands of lives that did... if it had had a little more span, it might have been able to fly higher..

Yep, they did a 214 Sqn one in 1:144th in around 2001 as well, as a full certified release, and very nice it is too, just the wrong scale! The Airxif Stirling certainly looks good, but a pity we don't have a diecast one. One of my favourite bombers the Stirling, as Mr A says sadly a fatally flawed design, but still got something about it :cool

Nice collection, I agree that a 1/72 Fortress would be great. I believe they were used a lot on diversionary raids.

My great Uncle included, he was killed when his Stirling was shot down by a night fighter.

datacroft,

It has to be the Stirling for me, but the B-17 looks fantastic! I would certainly add this to the die-cast stash in my loft, if it were to appear in a future Corgi catalogue!

Great pics!

Best wishes

Nice line up datacroft.:)

The Stirling is longer than the others by quite a way, but mine still fits in the cabinet at an angle due to the shorter wingspan (Sunderland won't fit:mad: )

Made from the Academy kit, AN526 'G' for George was one of the two aircraft to reach Wilhelmshaven on 8th July 1941 in the first mission flown by B-17s against a German target. In early 1941 the RAF received 20 B-17Cs from USAAC inventory and these aircraft were used to equip 90 Squadron, No 2 Group. After a protracted training period, the squadron became operational in early July 1941 and flew actively until September of that year. Bomber Command used the Fortress piecemeal for high-altitude raids until September 1941 mainly against German capital ships in Brest, Oslo and Other ports with little success. Note the unique camouflage, standard Dark Earth and Dark Green on top surfaces while the undersurfaces were 'Deep Sky Blue' which was described as an Azure blue but was in all likelyhood very similar, but not the same as PRU blue.

I'd buy one of those plus as many US Army Air Force versions as they cared to turn out. But has to be 1/72.

Very nice collection there :) Stirling is close to the top of my wishlist - have even reserved a spot in the display cabinet for it when (he says hopefully) someone makes one. Would also gladly pay for a Bomber Command B-17!

Ive got the 1/72 Corgi Yankee Doodle version, originally bought on price for my 1st B-17 purchase but I don't think I would part with it now

Have that one- rather like it. But I want a earlier model with the big tail and no tail gun. And I'd love to have an YB-40 but I know better than to think I'll get one.
