sometimes when you buy books from 'evilbay' that you've not seen before you can end up with something mediocre... however on examination of this one its definately in the 'woo-hoo' category ! :D published in 2001 its an A4 size soft back book, 128 pages with a good mix of pictures (mostly B&W) and text covering the history and development of this aircaft.. interesting fact of the day - the a/c had a folding fin assembly to allow it to fit in to hangars of the time designed for smaller a/c.. it covers projected developments such as the turboprop and turbojet aircraft along with the ultimate 'conversion' the Guppy.
well worth a look for anyone interested in airliners of the period, and can be picked up for a reasonable price..

unlike cunard brits :D
This book was well reviewed at the time as was one similar from another publisher. And I seem to remember at the time Connie books from the same publishers? Haven't got either yet. One of those when I get A ROUND TUIT!

yep appparently there is a Connie book in the same series, so i'll keep an eye out for that one..
mm Silver BOAC one sounds good.. big Union Flag on the tail ? what also looks good is the Pan Am 'Globe' scheme, theres a colour picture in the book of it..

had to buy 2 X B707's as a consolation... :D :D
although to rub salt in to the wounds, I've just 'won' something that I was hoping I would be outbid on as I decided I'd gone for the wrong one, and there wasnt even one other bid on it! AAAAH!

Actually thinking about that the other day, but 'all silver' is a bit boring, isn't it? Thought about the white top/tail BOAC scheme with polished silver wings fuselage. Would go nicely with the polished BOAC Brit and Comet, n'est pas?

BOAC possible, but can't do the Pan Am globe scheme as the logo is copyright and they want ooodles of spondoolies for using it.

Then Catch Me If You Can must have cost em a fortune... they use Corgi 707's for that..?
(How can the logo be copyright when the airline is defunct....!!  ) Do a Dragon then and no symbol on the tail..!!!
White Strat be nice... specially with a metal finish... most probably be easier to do than the all silver BOAC one which could have a good chance of coming out too 'chromed'..

Which is rather ridiculous as they no longer trade.... be as ridiculous as the RAF trying to copyright the roundel..!!

Uh sorry , but think they do. Still with limited ops 727s. Maybe Bstein can confirm.
Daft this copyrite thing. means no corgi Pan Am Globe strat. End up with all models sans markings so as not to breach copyrite. Already no swastikas on dragon (diff reason) No cathay 707. soon no raf roundals on planes. Where will it stop. Copyrite on the intellectual property of a spitfire. No model S*its!!! (great :D :D )

Great choice, Neil. :D
There are three in this series which I'm aware of, I have them all, and I'd consider them all at the top of the list. You're absolutely right, they're excellent. But your own amazon.co.uk has 'em all. You don't need to take a chance on the 'bay, unless the price and condition are right.... ;)

(sells for half the UK price at amazon.com)

I can't say with great certainty, Oh Great Dakota-in-the-sky, but thought Pan Am and all its iterations had gone Chapter 11. Legalese for Bye Bye.

Thats what I thought but didnt want to argue with Mr Pyrotechnic. Have TWA now gone as well or are there bits of that still about...?

These are tough times, Agent. Unless I'm very wrong, we've seen the last of Pan American, TWA, and now United and Delta are in Chapter 11.
Here in Minneapolis Northwest Airlines has its usual cyclical ups and downs as management changes, the economy waxes and wanes, and the price of Jet A per gallon skyrockets.

Read today US air gone chapter 11 again. Article said 1st airline to go twice. I seem to remember TWA were twice in chapter 11 but as usual relying crap memory. Olympic, Swiss and Alitalia are on very dodgy ground as well at the moment. I find this quite sad that airlines with this sort of history can just disappear, but that's the free market for you. God help the big boys if the likes of Southwest, Easyjet, and Ryanair start looking globally to expand.
BTW remember the Northwest Orient 707's at Heathrow And Mildenhall, Lovely scheme.

Thank for that Bob. Think last scheme smarter by the manner they incorporated the NW in the tail logo. I think this new scheme has lost that somehow. I suppose to you Northwest is like BA is to us. And then one day they'll be gone and you wish you'd taken more photos! :)

Cos the Pan Am logo was bought up by some company who bought the copyright and anyone that uses it without permission gets stung!
